Jakobsweg

Several times during our trip, we saw directional signs pointing out “Jakobsweg” (Jacob’s Way), with a distinctive starburst on the signs. We saw some in the first few days of the trip in Switzerland, and then later on when were were in Germany on the Danube.

I was curious about who this Jacob was and where he was going, and I finally remembered today to look it up at a moment when we actually had Internet access. For anyone who’s interested, it turns out that we were seeing signposts for routes of an official pilgrimage of the Catholic Church, known as the Way of St. James (read more on that Wikipedia link, see the logo, etc.).
